The fourth annual Aliyun Worldwide Developer Conference (AWDC) hosted by Alibaba Cloud Computing (AliCloud) has attracted more than 10,000 developers and partners from around the world for wide-ranging discussions focused on cloud security, cloud hosting platforms, cloud migration and applications. The event also provided opportunities for attending third-party developers to connect with venture capitalists to pursue funding.
AWDC is one of the largest annual cloud hosting events in China attracting international corporations and overseas developers including Rovio, ChinaSoft, China Software Development Net, Face++, Philips, Quixey and Schneider.
During the keynote speech, Alibaba Group’s Chief Technology Officer, Wang Jian, expressed, “Cloud computing puts small businesses on the same playing field as big corporations, providing them with the same access and capacity to build lasting and sustainable companies. Cloud computing also allows traditional businesses the opportunity to be as creative and innovative as technology companies.”
Yu Jiawen, the 23-year-old founder of the “Myfriday” app, said that Alibaba’s cloud computing services provided flexibility on the usage of IT resources, which allowed start-ups like his to reduce unnecessary costs. The Myfriday app, whose user base increases by about an average of 1,000 per hour, provides useful tools and social network platforms for university students to access class timetables, recommend courses to users based on their preferences and share resources.
