BackupAssist, an automated server backup and recovery software provider with offices in the United States and Australia, has announced the worldwide general availability launch of its CryptoSafeGuard ransomware protection.
The new software solution would enable small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to protect against having their backups encrypted and held for ransom.
CryptoSafeGuard protects backups from ransomware by stopping infected files from being backed up and prevents backups from being encrypted. It is designed to complement existing anti-malware solutions by adding an extra layer of detection at the data level, while also providing extra shielding around backups.
To sum up, CryptoSafeGuard would deliver the following capabilities:
- Protects – with features designed to stop ransomware from corrupting backups from the BackupAssist computer
- Detects – scans and detects the effects of ransomware activities in the source files under backup protection
- Responds – alerts an administrator via SMS and E-mail upon detection of crypto-corrupted files
- Preserves – blocks future backup jobs from running, thus preserving the last-known good backup
