Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU), the Chinese search engine and developer of PC, Web and mobile solutions, has announced the launch of a new PC program for enhancing individual computer performance. The software, called Baidu Cleaner, builds a “junk file” database in the cloud, identifying unused files that are clogging a computer based on its user’s behavior, and then integrates data from multiple users to continually improve its junk detection effectiveness.
“Baidu Cleaner is all about finding a smarter way to maintain your computer,” said Pan Jinfeng, product manager of Baidu Cleaner. “We’re approaching the perennial problem of a sluggish computer from a 21st-century mindset. There’s a lot of potential in harnessing the power of big data and the cloud for PC optimizing, but so far it’s been under-utilized. We want to change that.”
The new product, which officially launched on April 13th, 2015, includes three main functions: Full Clean, Clean Genius, and a Tool Box feature.
- Full Clean – analyzes the most common problem areas where computers accumulate junk, such as the registry, web browser cache and startup items.
- Clean Genius – offers the option for real-time junk detection, including automatic detection of leftover folders and files after uninstalling software, and the detection of new startup items that were added without permission.
- Tool Box feature – includes a Large File Cleaner, a System Repair tool, a personal WiFi Hotspot tool and more.
“By analyzing a huge amount of junk files, Baidu Cleaner can learn to more rapidly – and accurately – identify what’s slowing down your PC,” added Mr. Jinfeng. “Over time, it will be able to easily see the nearly invisible patterns of stubborn computer trash, like specific folder names, filename extensions, and even read-write frequency of programs.”
