Biggest Cloud Hits Manchester – eCloud brings giant-rivalling cloud infrastructure to the UK.
Manchester takes a giant leap forward in the technology race today as UKFast announces the launch of the UK’s largest private cloud.
The £12m eCloud infrastructure is predicted to be the UK’s first elastic cloud to rival US giants Amazon and Rackspace.
With petabytes of high availability storage from best-of-breed vendors such as 3Par and SGI, the eCloud is built upon the latest Cisco UCS Blade technology.
Lawrence Jones, UKFast CEO, said: “We have been leading the field with dedicated servers for more than a decade — we grew from nowhere by automating everything and making what once took 10 days, possible in two hours.
“Now the market has changed and we didn’t want to just create a run-of-the-mill, self-serve product like other cloud offerings. Building cloud environments is nothing new to UKFast, we’ve been managing data centres and been responsible for hundreds of thousands of websites since 1999.
“With eCloud we wanted to create something really special. With a pay-per-minute or contract model, eCloud brings elastic cloud to the North West and makes an enterprise-level cloud solution available to every level of business without any capital investment.
Jones continued: “My love for Manchester is no secret but there’s more to it than that. Manchester succeeded with the first mills, factories and canals because it is in the heart of the UK. Its central location is one of the most important factors in choosing Manchester to invest in and build our data centres.
“It was the home of the industrial revolution, now we are helping it become the home of the industrious revolution.”
UKFast’s eCloud launch comes as the firm continues its mission to boost connectivity in the North West. The firm has begun development on its fifth data centre in Manchester, acquiring No1 Archway at the start of the year to house the facility and become the new UKFast HQ.
