Bluebird Network’s Salina, Kansas, fiber extension is now operational. Bluebird provides secured connectivity to help small businesses in Salina, Kansas, through digital transformation. With the extensions into Aurora and DeKalb, Illinois, a new, varied fiber route to Chicago is also being built. By the end of 2022, their fiber connection to Chicago is anticipated to be operational.
With a fiber network Point of Presence (PoP) in each of the cities of Salina, Kansas; Aurora; and DeKalb, Illinois, regional organizations would be able to take advantage of Bluebird’s whole portfolio of high-speed fiber connectivity. While the Aurora and DeKalb areas will see first builds of 4 miles and 1.68 fiber route miles, respectively, the Salina region will gain access to 13.63 new fiber route miles.
Bluebird finished a network expansion in Waterloo, Iowa earlier this year with 11.74 route miles of local fiber. These network expansions would support Bluebird Network’s company vision, “to have a fiber presence in 80% of communities across our eleven-state footprint with a population greater than 10,000 people.”
Strategic Fiber Routes in Illinois

“For a long time, Bluebird was a fiber network company first and foremost, and these strategic expansions are what we’re still built on,” said Michael Morey, President and CEO at Bluebird Network. “But the Bluebird of today supports even more business needs with data center colocation, private cloud connectivity and a highly successful carrier sales operation.”
Some of the biggest technology and telecoms firms in the world are supported by Bluebird’s carrier sales team. Bluebird would offer Midwestern businesses in its 11-state service footprint the same degree of dedicated bandwidth and connectivity in keeping with the company’s objective to “connect communities and power a new era of productivity.”
Beyond Aurora and DeKalb, Bluebird Network is currently constructing strategic routes in Illinois. Bluebird will have deployed an extra 114.4 route miles of fiber after network extensions into Dixon and Sterling-Rock Falls, Illinois, in Q4 alone.
In order to support businesses in their digital transformation efforts, Bluebird Network can offer local businesses and organizations across the Midwest dedicated Internet access, Ethernet, colocation, cloud services, and more thanks to its extensive fiber infrastructure.
