Canadian ICT Solutions Provider, Cogeco, Expands Barrie, Ontario Data Center

Cogeco Data Services, a Canadian provider of fully managed hybrid ICT solutions and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cogeco Cable Inc. (TSX:CCA) – who also owns Peer 1 Hosting, has announced the expansion of its flagship data center in Barrie, Ontario. Construction of over 20,000 square feet of new operational space is now underway and scheduled for completion in early 2015.

The data center facility, paired with Cogeco Data Services‘ wholly-owned cloud hosting and network infrastructure, is expanding to accommodate Cogeco Data Services’ growing customer base and demand for the company’s cloud hosting and managed services.

cogeco-data-servicesWhen the data center expansion is complete, Cogeco Data Services will have invested approximately $80 million in the facility that will house over 32,000 square feet of operational floor space. Built to exceed Tier 3 standards and be CSAE 3416 and PCI compliant, the Barrie facility delivers advanced colocation, cloud hosting, managed IT and connectivity services.

Proximity to Toronto

“This addition to the Barrie data center facility will allow us to serve the growing requirements of current and newly acquired customers,” said Tony Ciciretto, President and CEO, Cogeco Data Services and Peer 1 Hosting. “With its close proximity to Toronto, Barrie is an ideal location for a primary data center facility and is also far enough removed from Toronto’s downtown core to act as a disaster recovery site. As the demand for data services continues to grow, we are well-positioned to provide a world-class ICT offering for our clients’ mission-critical and value-add requirements.”

The expanded data center is the fifth center in Cogeco Data Services’ growing data center fleet. Owned, operated and managed by Cogeco Data Services, the data center was designed in partnership with Ehvert Mission Critical, a firm responsible for the design and construction of some of North America’s most sophisticated data center facilities.
