Capgemini Fuels 6G Innovation with New Research Lab in India

Capgemini

Global technology consulting and digital transformation provider Capgemini has inaugurated its new 6G research lab in Gurugram, India. The initiative would significantly contribute to Capgemini’s R&D capabilities, working towards the development and practical demonstration of groundbreaking, energy-efficient use cases for the next-gen wireless network.

The establishment of this 6G research lab in India follows Capgemini’s collaboration announcement last year with King’s College London. The cooperative research aimed at exploring the potential of 6G by developing fresh architectural frameworks to enable sustainable, AI-native, ultra-large coverage 6G networks. This latest endeavor would mark a significant step forward from the earlier initiative, emphasizing the immense potential of 6G as an influential tool in fostering energy-efficient, data-driven ‘Intelligent Industries.’

Shamik Mishra, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of ‘Connected Futures’ at Capgemini, elucidated, “The 6G lab will serve as an incubator for ideation, simulation, and testing of solutions, taking advantage of next-generation connectivity, silicon technologies, and advanced AI to tackle the challenges posed by 6G wireless communication.”

Mishra emphasized the lab’s potential to align industry-wide efforts towards 6G technology, heralding the need for collaboration and knowledge sharing among enterprises and academia for capitalizing on the immense opportunities and applications that the future holds.

AI Algorithms

The newly launched facility is poised to boost Capgemini’s exploratory pursuits in the realm of telecommunications. It would promise to foster innovative solutions while extending its support to the broader industry with capabilities including:

  • The utilization of high-performance compute infrastructure to create sophisticated simulation environments. This will facilitate the development and verification of innovative network frameworks tailored to meet the rigorous demands of 6G, thereby addressing end-to-end network infrastructure.
  • The crafting of exhaustive simulations to assess the performance of emerging 6G features, encompassing mesh networks, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), and non-terrestrial networks conceived specifically for 6G.
  • The development of advanced AI algorithms to tackle wireless communication challenges engendered by the evolution to 6G.
  • The introduction of novel use case ideas which can be built, tested, and transformed into valuable assets.
