Beijing Internet Harbor Technology, a data center and cloud services provider in China, has expanded its deployment of the Coriant 7100 Nano Packet Optical Transport Platform in the Beijing metropolitan area with the introduction of full Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) functionality.
The network expansion would bring a new level of on-demand agility to Beijing Internet Harbor’s Data Center Interconnect (DCI) backbone network and enhance the value-added cloud services the company offers to large and small Internet companies and enterprises throughout China.
With the industry’s highest density ROADM, 10G, 100G, and packet grooming capabilities, the Coriant 7100 Packet Optical Transport Platform would enable the China-based cloud services provider to dramatically reduce space and power requirements while improving overall network efficiencies. In addition, the implementation of full ROADM and Optical Express functionality across the network would introduce further benefits, including accelerated service activation times, reduced regeneration costs, and improved network reliability.

By eliminating manual intervention and dramatically simplifying network engineering, ROADMs would be able to accelerate service activation times by as much as 80%. Additionally, because ROADMs can balance signal power levels more accurately than manual balancing, they would provide better overall optical performance in the network. This improved optical performance can result in a reduction in the number of times a signal will require costly electrical regeneration before reaching its destination.
