Cloud Commerce Marketplace Pax8 Buys New Zealand Cloud Company

Umbrellar

Umbrellar, a Microsoft cloud solutions provider from New Zealand that delivers cloud managed services, migration, consulting services, and cloud procurement to more than 1,000 New Zealand enterprises, has been bought by cloud commerce platform, Pax8. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Through this acquisition, Pax8 can enter the New Zealand market and empower its rapidly expanding partner network in this region to hasten digital transformation both domestically and internationally.

“As we continue to expand into the APAC region, the Umbrellar acquisition will be key to our growth in the New Zealand market,” said John Street, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Pax8. “Together, our technology, people, and resources will enable businesses in the APAC region to modernize, digitally transform, and fuel growth with cloud solutions.”

The acquisition follows the news of Pax8 expanding its presence into Australia and New Zealand last April. It has enabled channel partners in Australia and New Zealand to buy solutions from Bitdefender, CyberCNS, Dropsuite, Proofpoint, SentinelOne, Acronis, and Check Point’s email security division through the Pax8 cloud commerce platform.

50 New Pax8 Employees

Umbrellar, with its headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand, aims to provide its partners with the technology of the future through first-rate professional services and its procurement platform. The business was recognized as a top Microsoft cloud provider in 2019 by being named Microsoft NZ Partner of the Year.

“We are thrilled about the opportunity this acquisition creates for our people, partners, and mutual customers,” said Dave Howden, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Umbrellar. “As a premium Microsoft CSP in New Zealand, and with what I consider the most talented Microsoft engineering team in the region, I’m excited we can continue to support our ecosystem of partners and customers here in NZ and now extend globally as part of the Pax8 Asia team.”

A born-in-the-cloud business, Pax8 would make it simpler how channel partners purchase, sell, and manage cloud technology. By linking the channel ecosystem to its transactional cloud marketplace, the company’s technology replaces legacy distribution. Pax8’s services include billing, provisioning, automation, PSA integrations, pre- and post-sales support, and education.

“We are excited to welcome 50 new employees from Umbrellar to the Pax8 Asia team,” said Chris Sharp, Senior Vice President at Pax8 Asia. “The team at Umbrellar are experts in cloud-enabling businesses in New Zealand, and they are the number one service provider of Microsoft cloud in the market. With a focus on infrastructure managed services, assessment, migration, and optimization, their technical expertise and award-winning professional services will prove to be a value-add for Pax8 partners.”
