Cloud Hosting Provider Linode Opens Data Center in Frankfurt, Germany

Linode, a provider of cloud hosting services founded in 2003, has opened its newest data center in Frankfurt, Germany. Linode selected Frankfurt for its eighth datacenter because of the city’s central European location. A significant part of Europe’s Internet traffic travels through the digital and financial hub of Frankfurt.

Linode’s Frankfurt data center doubles the company’s capacity in Europe, complementing their London data center location. It also enables German customers to comply with Germany’s Federal Data Protection Act (a.k.a., Bundesdatenschutzgesetz) that requires data to be hosted on German soil.

Aker. “There is an exciting startup and technology development scene in Germany and throughout Europe. We are pleased to expand our simple and powerful cloud hosting services to developers, entrepreneurs, and businesses in the region.”

In addition to Frankfurt and London, Linode has data centers in Singapore; Tokyo; Atlanta, Ga.; Newark, N.J.; Fremont, Calif. and Dallas, Texas. The company utilizes data center-grade SSD storage, Intel E5 processors, a 40Gbps redundant network, and KVM- powered hypervisors.

Linode is using TelecityGroup’s colocation and data center services for both of its European locations. “Telecity’s state-of-the-art facility, highly secure environment (certified to ISO 27001), and robust connectivity options were all important factors in making our selection,” said project lead Brett Kaplan. “The TelecityGroup team built a track record of delivering reliable service for our London location, making them the logical choice for Frankfurt.”
