Lumos Networks, a company with a fiber network of 8,734 fiber route miles and more than 401,000 total fiber strand miles, has joined the Equinix Cloud Exchange – an interconnection solution that provides direct and private access to multiple cloud service providers.

As an Equinix Cloud Exchange member, Lumos Networks provides Ethernet access to the exchange, where customers can connect with a wide array of cloud service providers. lumos networks“Businesses need robust, predictable connectivity to the Equinix Cloud Exchange so they can deploy cloud environments that deliver the benefits they expect,” said Bill Long, Equinix vice president of interconnection solutions. “Enterprises cannot afford for their access to cloud resources to be put at risk by public Internet latency and congestion. High performance network access to the cloud is a must-have for cloud success.”

Lumos Networks connects 1,252 unique ‘fiber to the cell’ sites, 1,592 total FTTC connections, 36 data centers, including 7 company owned colocation facilities, 1,812 on-net buildings and over 3,000 total on-net locations. In 2015, Lumos Networks generated over $114 million in data revenue.
