Mirantis Launches OpenStack Installer With Plugin Flexibility for Networking and Storage Solutions

Mirantis, a provider of software, services, training and support needed for running OpenStack-based cloud hosting environments, has launched Mirantis OpenStack 6.0. Based on OpenStack Juno, Mirantis OpenStack 6.0 would be the first OpenStack distribution to let partners and customers write plugins that install and run their products automatically.

Partners and customers can write plugins for the Fuel deployment manager, letting users seamlessly add functionality in OpenStack instead of manually installing additional software and drivers.

mirantis-openstack-cloudFuel offers an open source framework for creating deployment plugins, offering users a wide range of capabilities that they can repeatedly add to their Fuel-managed OpenStack clouds. Fuel plugins that are now shipping with Mirantis OpenStack 6.0 include Load-Balancing-as-a Service with HAProxy, Virtual-Private-Network-as-a-Service, and NetApp and Red Hat‘s GlusterFS as backend storage for Cinder. Customers and partners can also build additional network, storage, operations and authentication plugins.

“As the pure-play OpenStack vendor, Mirantis is committed to keeping hardware and software choices completely open and to removing technical barriers to adoption,” said Boris Renski, Mirantis CMO. “Our investment in pluggable architecture makes it much easier for customers to take advantage of their preferred networking and storage solutions in building, deploying and managing their OpenStack clouds.”

In addition to a newly pluggable OpenStack installer, Mirantis OpenStack 6.0 would feature improved high availability functionality, while it has been rigorously tested to perform out-of-the-box at a scale of up to 100 nodes. It also offers extended support for VMware, including a reference architecture VMware vCenter Server and VMware NSX, and support for vSphere Datastore and Nova-Network VLAN Manager support for vCenter.
