OVH Launches its Public Cloud Hosting Service in the UK

OVH, one of the largest web hosting companies in the world, has launched its Public Cloud hosting service in the UK, further cementing the company’s commitment to public cloud as the basis of its future roadmap.

The OVH Public Cloud is based on OpenStack, the open source cloud computing platform – of which OVH is a foundation member. Monthly and hourly payment options enable customers to scale their cloud capacity relative to their needs, rather than over-committing their resources.

Targeted at developers, system administrators and DevOps, the public cloud hosting service is backed up by a ‘five nines’ Service Level Agreement (SLA), guaranteeing 99.999% availability and reliability of OVH’s cloud infrastructure.

To reassure UK businesses concerned about data security, loss and privacy in the cloud, the OVH Public Cloud comes with customizable DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) protection against cyber attacks, triple data replication and hosting in European-based data centers.

ovh-cloud-hosting“OVH Public Cloud is more than just a new service we’re launching to the market,” said Octave Klaba, CTO and founder of OVH. “It will form the basis of all future services on the OVH roadmap. So we’re putting out money where our mouth is. Our Public Cloud is designed to create complex hybrid architectures, combining private infrastructures with virtual machines and public instances. This is supported by a comprehensive selection of IaaS services which we believe to be unique in the industry.”

SaaS Applications

OVH offers two types of public cloud hosting services: Public Cloud Instances and Public Cloud Storage.

Public Cloud Instances provides a choice of two types of virtual machines: the RAM instances are designed for memory-hungry purposes such as running Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications, creating multimedia content, or managing large databases. Cloud CPU instances lend themselves to managing processing-heavy tasks including data analytics, computer simulations and managing peak server loads.

“OVH Public Cloud is more than just a new service we’re launching to the market, it will form the basis of all future services on the OVH roadmap,” said Octave Klaba, CTO and founder of OVH.

The Public Cloud Storage service offers high-availability object storage, which can be used to warehouse and access large amounts of binary content for application development. In this way, software developers can avoid the hassle of having to set up NFS or FTP servers specially. Classic and high-speed storage options are also available.

“We want UK businesses to adopt the cloud with confidence, whether that’s in terms of security, availability, cost or resources,” said Hiren Parekh, director of sales and marketing, OVH UK. “The OVH Public Cloud provides a robust solution that can be scaled flexibly, and does not tie businesses to one vendor. Our aim is to give users the freedom and flexibility they need as their businesses evolve. We are really excited about this product and it is just the beginning. New features are being added on a regular basis to enhance it, such as network functionalities to facilitate hybrid cloud.”

100G Network, 3 Tbps Available

Included in all OVH Public Cloud packages are automatic, unlimited DDoS protection against all types and lengths of attacks, including detection and auto-mitigation; and triple data replication, saving organizations the hassle of having to put their own redundancy measures in place.

All of the packages also come with access to OVH Net, OVH’s own global fiber optic network. The network is managed using DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and is currently being migrated to 100G coherent technology, offering a total capacity of 3 Tbps.
