Rackspace Expands Multi-Cloud Networking Capabilities Through Connectivity to Megaport USA

Rackspace is expanding its multi-cloud capabilities through connectivity to Megaport USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Megaport (ASX: MP1) – the globally operating interconnection services provider. Now, customers in any Megaport enabled data center can establish a dedicated RackConnect Global circuit to Rackspace data centers in the United States.

Megaport enables users to connect over an elastic, Software Defined Network (SDN)-based Ethernet fabric. This marks the first time that Rackspace customers can leverage connectivity to U.S. West Coast data centers and public cloud regions, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) U.S. West 1 and 2.

Megaport has more than 40 locations across the United States that will now connect to Rackspace data center regions in Chicago, Dallas and Virginia. In addition, Megaport’s global network footprint includes more than 150 Points-of-Presence (PoPs) across North America, APAC and Europe.

megaport sdn interconnection“The best infrastructure for a site or app can require both cloud and single-tenant bare metal solutions, which is why Rackspace has created a true hybrid cloud environment with multi-cloud flexibility,” said Mark Roenigk, chief operating officer (COO) of Rackspace. “This allows customers to connect single-tenant hosting to private and public clouds on the technology platform of their choice including AWS, Microsoft, OpenStack and VMware. Megaport elastic interconnection allows us to better deliver this multi-cloud functionality to customers with high availability and private connections to on-premise data centers and public cloud environments across North America.”

By connecting to the Megaport network via RackConnect Global – a dedicated circuit, Rackspace customers would receive multiple benefits including:

  • High Performance – “Low-latency” connection speeds of up to 10 Gbps; this could be ideal for disaster recovery planning, data backups and helping to reduce the costs of cloud-based web and productivity applications.
  • Enhanced Security – Direct, private circuit from Rackspace bypasses the Internet for a more secured connection to other data centers and cloud locations.
  • Multi-Cloud Capabilities – Ability to build out an agile multi-cloud network across customers’ clouds of choice, including Amazon Web Services (AWS Cloud), Microsoft Azure, VMware or Rackspace Private cloud powered by OpenStack, “with the reliability of single-tenant hosting.”

RackConnect Global is in limited availability in the United States with connectivity to AWS, Microsoft Azure, and now the Megaport ecosystem and enabled data centers in North America. Additional Rackspace connectivity to Megaport global regions will be available in 2017.
