In October 2018, Europe’s largest web host 1&1 Internet joined forces with Enterprise Cloud specialist ProfitBricks and rebranded to 1&1 IONOS. The rebranding was not just a mere change of name but also a strategic move and a repositioning that took more than a year of preparation. During this period, almost three thousand employees worked together in creating a new company to face the challenges of a Hosting and Cloud industry that has significantly changed in the past ten years. 1&1 IONOS’ Chief Revenue and Deputy officer Dr. Christian Böing looks back to a year of change, reasons why, and lessons learned.
