Global colocation and interconnection provider, Equinix, has established direct connections from its AM3 Sciencepark Amsterdam facility to the Amsterdam, Netherlands-based Nikhef and Vancis (SURFsara) carrier hotels. This will allow clients to directly connect to more than 250 international networks.
The Vancis (SURFsara) and Nikhef colocation facilities have had a historic presence in Amsterdam, having established the first internet connectivity point in the Netherlands. Today, businesses throughout the region continue to utilize this infrastructure and network connectivity. Access to Nikhef and Vancis is immediately available for Equinix customers in AM3 Science Park.
Situated in one of the world’s most network-dense locations, Equinix’s data center campus in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, would be a low latency gateway to the continent, reaching 80 percent of Europe within 50 milliseconds.
Cloud ecosystem
“Increasingly more companies use cloud hosting services, but are faced with an important prerequisite for doing so: truly successful and reliable cloud applications require a high degree of network connectivity,” said Michiel Eielts, general manager, Equinix Netherlands. “Inside Equinix’s data centers organizations are already utilizing many networks in our ecosystem. The additional connectivity offered by Vancis and Nikhef creates a new breeding ground for the cloud ecosystem, valuable to cloud suppliers and users alike.”
The new partnership follows a series of acquisitions and investments by Equinix in 2013 that added over 75 new carriers including many in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Platform Equinix now provides access to more than 975 network service providers globally.
