EvoSwitch, a provider of sustainable, cloud-neutral colocation services with data centers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Washingtion, D.C., has announced the launch of OpenCloud, a marketplace for Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), cloud interconnect partners, system integrators (SIs) and enterprise customers.
EvoSwitch’s OpenCloud platform will bring new opportunities for providers of cloud (interconnect) services. The new platform would also make it easy for enterprise and system integrator customers to find the right partner to support their public or hybrid cloud environments, including direct access to the large public clouds of Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
A key partner of EvoSwitch is the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX). As one of the largest providers of IP interconnection and peering services in the world, AMS-IX has been playing an active role in connecting EvoSwitch customers to parties connected to its platform elsewhere. By providing direct access to a dedicated VLAN at its platform, AMS-IX now enables EvoSwitch customers and partners to “quickly and securely” interconnect to CSPs, SIs and enterprise private clouds co-located in other data centers in the greater Amsterdam region.
“We have hundreds of direct and indirect customers co-located inside our data centers,” said Eric Boonstra, Managing Director of EvoSwitch. “It is not always clear though for enterprise customers looking to build a hybrid cloud environment, that they are able to easily scale their cloud by partnering with other EvoSwitch customers in the same facility. This is where OpenCloud may play a role.”
PUE of 1.2
EvoSwitch has designed and installed environmentally sustainable technologies in cooperation with TNO, allowing their AMS1 data center in the Amsterdam region to fully operate on a CO2 neutral basis. The energy saving data center infrastructure features a PUE of 1.2, which is a very low thus energy-efficient figure. OpenCloud is available to all EvoSwitch customers with some 25 CSPs already participating.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our partnership with EvoSwitch and that they will be using our interconnection expertise and infrastructure for their OpenCloud service,” said Job Witteman, CEO of AMS-IX. “We applaud them for their vision that the cloud ecosystem can only truly thrive and grow in Amsterdam if cloud providers are accessible via a neutral platform. By going first, EvoSwitch is showing their commitment to a neutral and open ecosystem that will benefit all.”
