Network-neutral interconnection and hyperscale edge data center provider Cologix, a prominent provider of, has announced the construction of its Montréal MTL8 data center, their newest Scalelogix facility. MTL8 is planned to become one of Cologix’s most eco-friendly and sustainable data centers, spanning 205,000 square feet and offering 21 megawatts (MW) of power.
The MTL8 data center, which is being constructed by Crevier Mancini Leeswood (CML) Construction, is a significant expansion of Cologix’s footprint in Montréal. It intends to obtain LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, demonstrating its dedication to minimizing energy and resource consumption and minimizing its environmental impact. The data center facility utilizes an energy-efficient cooling system to maximize functionality while conserving energy, and it will be powered by Hydro-Québec’s renewable energy.
The MTL8 data center is strategically located in Technoparc Montréal, Canada’s first scientific park, among a community of over one hundred innovative companies in the life sciences, aerospace, and technology industries. This facility offers dark fiber connectivity and direct access to the principal carrier hotel in the Greater Montréal Metropolitan Area.
Alan DeSousa, borough mayor of Saint-Laurent, praised Cologix’s eco-friendly data center, stating, “We are cognizant of the fact that this Cologix building is the first data center in Canada to acquire LEED Gold certification. The Cologix data center is additional evidence that economic growth, innovation, and environmental protection can coexist in harmony.”
SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, PCI DSS
Daniel Laurin, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Client Solutions at Cologix, highlighted the benefits of MTL8 by stating, “With its sustainable design, unparalleled connectivity, and strong interconnection capabilities, MTL8 is well-positioned to serve as a critical hub for businesses throughout the region and beyond.”
The Vice President and Partner of CML Construction, Francesca Mancini, expressed her enthusiasm for the LEED Gold-certified data center project, highlighting the use of sustainable materials and efforts to reduce the carbon footprint during construction.
MTL8 is a component of Cologix’s larger development strategy, which also involves the construction of three new Scalelogix facilities in the United States and Canada. These data centers will be certified as SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, and PCI DSS Validation, meeting the strictest security and compliance requirements.
According to Cologix, MTL8 will provide great connectivity and performance with over one hundred service providers and direct connections to hyperscale cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, and Oracle FastConnect.
Cologix says it has reached a significant milestone with the introduction of the MTL8 data center, as it expands its portfolio of sustainable data centers and supports the development of businesses in Montréal and beyond.
