Compass Datacenters, a Dallas-based data center company founded in 2011, has been named one of the most exciting emerging companies in the world by Red Herring through its Top 100 Global awards. Red Herring editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Baidu, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube, and eBay would change the way we live and work.
Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated the companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration. This assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track records and standing of startups relative to their peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models from around the world.
Most Red Herring Top 100 winners have traditionally been consumer tech and Internet companies. Compass Datacenters is the only data center-related company we see on the list this year.
 $110M Credit Facility
“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across the globe to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Compass Datacenters embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture.”
Last May, Compass Datacenters completed a new round of capital raising to support the company’s expansion into additional geographic markets and to fund new data center construction projects for customers. The new capital consisted of $35M in private equity commitments and $65M in additional capacity under Compass’ now $110M revolving credit facility.
“Data centers are the building blocks for the modern economy, and Compass is driving the next wave of innovation and growth in the data center industry,” said Chris Crosby, CEO of Compass Datacenters. “The fastest-growing segment of the data center industry is dedicated data center facilities that meet the technical needs and business needs of corporations and service providers in geographies outside of the traditional data center markets, and Compass is leading the way in meeting that rapidly growing need.”
