Cyber Security Company Illumio Raises $65 Million

Illumio, a global cyber security solutions company delivering micro-segmentation and preventing the spread of breaches inside data center and cloud environments, has closed $65 million in Series E funding led by clients advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Illumio is one of the world’s top-funded cybersecurity companies and has raised over $332.5 million in funding to date.

Since entering the market, Illumio has become a prominent player in the multi-billion dollar micro-segmentation market with customers such as Morgan Stanley, Salesforce, BNP Paribas, and Oracle NetSuite. Illumio’s cyber security solutions also prevent the spread of breaches inside any data center or cloud environment – a challenge facing all organizations.

“There’s a lot of momentum and growth in this industry and we’re seeing enterprises increase their cyber security budgets dramatically,” said John Hinshaw who has been appointed to Illumio’s Board of Directors.

In 2018 Illumio Increased North American headcount by 42 percent, EMEA headcount by 450 percent, and APAC headcount by 160 percent. Last year the company also appointed Jonathan Reiber, former Pentagon Chief Strategy Officer for Cyber Policy, as Head of Cybersecurity Strategy. Another milestone for Illumio last year was the achievement of federal compliance for securing high value assets (FIPS 140-2 Level 1 security certification).

“Regardless of industry or size, every organization has crown jewels or regulated assets running in their environment, and the only way to protect them effectively is ring-fencing and segmentation,” said Andrew Rubin, CEO and co-founder of Illumio. “With this latest round of funding, we’re continuing to invest in scaling our global go-to-market as well as the innovation of our platform.”

Illumio’s patented software technology delivers real-time application and vulnerability mapping that shows crown jewel applications and where organizations have the greatest security risk. These applications are then secured through micro-segmentation, which would isolate and protect them from the spread of breaches.

With this new round of funding, Illumio will support the continued expansion of the company’s presence in the US, EMEA, and APAC.

Board of Directors Illumio

Illumio also announced the appointment of John Hinshaw to the company’s Board of Directors. Mr. Hinshaw will advise the company on its business strategy, software innovation, and go-to-market.

John Hinshaw is an angel investor and tech industry veteran with 25 years of experience working with innovative security technologies across the banking and financial services, federal government, communications, and aerospace industries. Mr. Hinshaw served as CIO of Boeing and is currently on the boards of The Bank of New York Mellon, DocuSign, and Sysco Corporation.

“There’s a lot of momentum and growth in this industry and we’re seeing enterprises increase their cyber security budgets dramatically,” said John Hinshaw. “I believe Illumio is making strides with micro-segmentation to help these companies and organizations protect their mission-critical information.”
