HPE has announced the acquisition of Plexxi, a pioneer in converged network infrastructure for public and private cloud deployments. Plexxi’s technology would extend HPE’s software-defined compute and storage capabilities into the high-growth, software-defined networking market, expanding its addressable market and strengthening their offerings for customers and partners.

Plexxi was founded in 2010 and would be focused on enabling data center modernization and hybrid cloud with its software-defined data fabric. Through this acquisition, HPE would be able to deliver hyper-converged and composable solutions with a “next-generation” data network fabric that can automatically create or re-balance bandwidth to workload needs.

Building on last year’s SimpliVity acquisition, Plexxi would enable HPE to deliver a hyper-converged offering that incorporates compute, storage and data fabric networking into a single solution, with a single management interface and support. The combined HPE SimpliVity plus Plexxi solution would provide customers with a dynamic workload-based model to better align IT resources to business priorities. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
