NetApp has acquired Talon for an undisclosed sum of money. This software-defined storage solutions provider enables global enterprises to centralize and consolidate IT storage infrastructure. Talon’s software will integrate with NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Cloud Volumes Service and Azure NetApp Files solutions.

From its headquarters in Mount Laurel, NJ and its global locations, Talon serves the largest Global 2000 organizations including the most established architectural, construction, engineering, energy, offshore and manufacturing companies.

Talon’s strategic vision of a cloud-consolidated, data centric footprint which has been adopted by many global enterprises today is seen as synergistic with NetApp’s own vision of simplifying data services across an organization’s choice of clouds to accelerate digital transformation.

“Both NetApp and Talon share a common vision for the power of the cloud as the consolidated repository for all types of unstructured data,” said Shirish Phatak, founder and CEO of Talon Storage.

According to NetApp and Talon, the combination of Talon’s intelligent file caching software and the NetApp Cloud Volumes suite would have the potential to significantly accelerate centralization and consolidation of large networks of geographically dispersed distributed file servers into the cloud.

“We’re excited about the potential for our customers to be brought more completely into the NetApp customer family, with all of their resources and vision,” said Shirish Phatak, founder and CEO of Talon Storage. “This is a true ‘win-win’ for Talon’s stakeholders, employees, and customers, as both NetApp and Talon share a common vision for the power of the cloud as the consolidated repository for all types of unstructured data.”

The Talon software integration with NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Cloud Volumes Service and Azure NetApp Files solutions would give customers a faster path to the public cloud at a better TCO.
