Originally located at Switch Datacenters AMS1 in Amsterdam, the first Open Compute Project (OCP) Experience Center in Europe has now been moved to the maincubes AMS01 data center in the Amsterdam area. Global data center vendor Rittal and Circle B (one of OCP’s first authorized channel partners in Europe for delivering OCP solutions) have selected the maincubes AMS01 data center for its proximity to Schiphol airport and the fact that it is “operated by a major independent and European data center supplier.”

Switch Datacenters recently sold its AMS1 site to Equinix, the reason for which Rittal and Circle B had to find another data center in the Amsterdam area meeting the stringent and specific OCP requirements.

“The European OCP Experience Center has been instrumental in adopting OCP-inspired data center designs in Europe,” said Steve Helvie, VP of Channel for the Open Compute Project Foundation. “Now that Switch Datacenters has sold their AMS1 data center, I am pleased that Rittal and Circle B have decided to work with a major independent and European data center supplier as maincubes. I am very pleased that these three companies will continue to drive the growth of OCP in the European region.”

“We see great opportunities for both Dutch and international OCP Inspired projects, our data center location in Amsterdam is ideally located for Dutch visitors but also for data center owners and data center managers from abroad,” said Joris te Lintelo, Vice President of maincubes.

The fully functional OCP environment is now live at the Amsterdam AMS01 facility of maincubes. The OCP Experience Center is available as a demo center, but can also be used to test new ‘OCP Accepted’ and ‘OCP Inspired’ data center environments and telco solutions.

“We see great opportunities for both Dutch and international OCP Inspired projects,” said Joris te Lintelo, Vice President of maincubes. “Our location in Amsterdam is ideally located for Dutch visitors, but also for data center owners and data center managers from abroad and we would like to invite you to meet us.”

The European OCP Experience Center at maincubes AMS01 is located right next to Schiphol Airport. The OCP Experience Center will be accessible for visitors during the annual OCP Regional Summit to be held at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 26-27 September 2019.

The three companies, Rittal, Circle B and maincubes, have noticed that within the technology sector, IT managers at large companies and governments across Europe have started to implement OCP principles – which also provides the basis for many hyperscalers and how they operate their infrastructures. By applying OCP designs in their data centers, large and mid-sized companies and governments would be able to benefit from the same advantages as the hyperscalers: cost reduction, low energy consumption and high flexibility.

“Now that Switch Datacenters has sold their AMS1 data center, I am pleased that Rittal and Circle B have decided to work with a major independent and European data center supplier as maincubes,” said Steve Helvie, VP of Channel for the Open Compute Project Foundation.

The aim of the European OCP Experience Center, now located at the maincubes AMS01 data center, is to help CIOs, CTOs, IT managers and data center managers fully understand the impact of OCP designs on their facilities. The center will also enable them to test specific OCP-based solutions relevant to their IT environment.

As a well-known manufacturer and global supplier of infrastructure solutions for data center environments, Rittal – as part of their product portfolio – designs, manufactures and sells racks and cooling solutions based on OCP designs.

Circle B was one of the first European channel partners to acquire the status of OCP Solution Provider. OCP Solution Providers are a special group of companies within the OCP ecosystem. They develop, test, deliver and support turnkey systems and environments based on OCP designs.

maincubes is part of the German investor and property developer Art-Invest, which is part of the German construction group, Zech Group. They operate an expanding number of data centers across Europe, with currently two large-scale data centers in Frankfurt, Germany and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Their facilities feature highly energy-efficient, extremely redundant and highly secured data center designs. For more information on maincubes, visit their website.

“The first European OCP Experience Center is a great success and we have welcomed a large number of highly interested data center managers and data center professionals,” said Andre Hiddink, Product Manager IT Infrastructure and RiMatrix at Rittal BV. And Menno Kortekaas, Chief Technology Officer of Circle B. “We would like to thank the team of Switch Datacenters for their significant contribution to the adoption of OCP in Europe and we are grateful that they will continue to support us and the OCP community in the future, albeit in a different role.”
