DataBank Breaks Ground on 200,000 Sq. Ft. Data Center in Northern Virginia

DataBank, a supplier of enterprise-grade colocation, interconnection, and managed cloud services, is breaking ground on a 200,000 square-foot data center in Northern Virginia, on of the world’s biggest data center markets.

DataBank’s new data center, IAD3, will be erected on DataBank-owned land close to the company’s present location in Ashburn, Virginia. The IAD3 facility will initially provide 4MW of power, with the capacity to increase to 40MW in the future. The new data center will be operational in the first quarter of 2023.

Thanks to its abundance of fiber connections and tech expertise, Northern Virginia has a large concentration of enterprises, technology companies, cloud services providers, hyperscale cloud providers, and content providers that may demand dense interconnection and proximity to best-in-class data center infrastructure.

“DataBank is investing extensively across our portfolio nationwide, and IAD3 represents a tremendous opportunity for our clients to take advantage of Ashburn’s location and proximity to 70% of the world’s Internet traffic,” said Raul Martynek, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at DataBank. This Ashburn data center more than doubles our colocation footprint in Loudoun County, providing a high-quality colocation solution for cloud, content, technology and Fortune 500 customers.”

Data Centers in Ashburn and McClean

DataBank’s facility will include a “cutting-edge” modular architecture and energy-saving technologies. It would demonstrate the company’s dedication to creating ecologically friendly data center solutions.

IAD3 would add to DataBank’s strong presence in the region, which already includes two existing facilities in Ashburn and McClean, each with 22.5MW of power and 111,000 square feet of raised floor data center space.

FedRAMP, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, FISMA, SSAE-18, ITAR, NIST 800-53, and Flips 140-2 are all met by DataBank’s facilities. Hybrid, Public, Private, Managed, IaaS, PaaS, and Storage-as-a-Service are among the services offered by the organization. Its 60+ data centers in 29 markets are all carrier-neutral, with 30,000+ interconnections and powerful connectivity solutions include Metro Transport, Nationwide MPLS, Managed Internet, and Cloud Direct Connect.
