To further expand the global reach of PlatformDigital, Digital Realty has announced the opening of its third data center in Singapore. Digital Loyang II or the SIN12 data center, a multi-story 50Megawatt facility is the company’s largest data center in the country and it is going to bring Digital Realty’s total committed investment until now in Singapore to around US$1 billion.
Digital Realty is a global provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation, data centers, and interconnection solutions. This expansion would allow multinational and local enterprises to deploy critical infrastructure and give a push to their digital business at the center of a connected data community on PlatformDIGITAL.
The SIN12 data center is pre-leased to a community of global and local cloud service providers (CSPs) and industry leading Southeast Asian enterprises. Along with that, the new facility will also present the next generation colocation services for regional customers in Singapore and will work on the expansion of PlatformDIGITAL. It will provide customers in APAC new avenues to extend their reach, connect, and explore new business opportunities.
The enterprises will get a full spectrum of colocation services. It will allow them to enhance their critical infrastructure on-demand within a connected data community with optimal proximity provided to networks, cloud service providers (CSPs), and carriers. PlatformDIGITAL’s productized solutions for data hub footprints and networks will help the customers in growing their digital business.
Data Center Interconnections
One thing that should be considered is that Digital Loyang 2 is adjacent to SIN11 or the Digital Loyang I. Both the entities are also connected to the Digital Jurong (SIN10) which is situated in Digital Realty’s data center on the west side of Singapore. The two facilities are connected by diverse high count-fiber routes, allowing customers in both facilities to make a direct connection through dark fiber cross-connects and get a connected data community of network service providers on Digital Realty’s open global platform.
Talking about the Digital Loyang campus, it is less than 25 kilometers from Singapore’s central business district and its location is in close proximity to the Changi north cable landing station that is a key sub-sea interconnection hub for the region.
Sustainable Data Center Development
SIN12 grabbed a Platinum certification under Singapore’s BCA Green Mark building assessment system and is created upon Digital Realty’s track record of delivering sustainable data center developments across the globe. The Green Mark certification scheme is designed to get an accurate idea of the environmental impact and performance of a building. After that, it offers a comprehensive framework for assessing new and existing buildings to promote sustainable design and use the best in the industry practices in construction and operations.
Digital Realty CEO A. William Stein said that the opening of their third data center in Singapore is a big milestone for the PlatformDIGITAL roadmap and it also shows the dedication of the company to support the country’s digital economy. When it comes to the Asia Pacific region, Digital Realty operates a continuously growing network of data centers situated in Osaka, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney, and Melbourne. The high-paced expansion of Digital Realty across APAC is speculated to consist of new development projects throughout 2021 within several major metros.
