Hosting company Weserve, a provider of web hosting, dedicated servers, VPS cloud and fiber optic services based in the east of the Netherlands, has acquired Datacenter Groningen for an undisclosed sum of money. Located in the northern part of the Nederlands, Datacenter Groningen operates a carrier-neutral, sustainable facility delivering colocation services.
By acquiring Datacenter Groningen, Weserve is expanding its services across the Netherlands to include data center colocation and related activities.
Weserve is a provider and operator of fiber optics and has been active in the cloud and hosting market since 2003. Since 2013, the company has been focusing not only on hosting services but also on fiber services and they now provide many locations with Internet, television and telephony on fiber. Besides the business market, they also serve the consumer market with two consumer brands.
25 Data Centers Across the Netherlands
Weserve manages its own network and hardware from 25 data centers across the Netherlands. The company has its own links to several major fiber optic suppliers. In addition, Weserve illuminates and manages its own constructed networks and those of third parties, such as the networks of various fiber optic cooperatives in the Netherlands.
Weserve’s existing network will be linked to Datacenter Groningen. This consists of a fiber-optic ring through the northern part of the Netherlands, which offers more capacity to the data center. For customers within Datacenter Groningen this would mean a larger network range will be available and higher bandwidths for Internet traffic at lower costs.
