Dutch NorthC Datacenters Expands into Switzerland, Acquires Netrics

NorthC, the largest regional data center colocation company in the Netherlands, has signed an agreement to acquire the data centers and connectivity services of Swiss company Netrics. Through this, NorthC is entering the Swiss market. This is the second international acquisition by NorthC, following the acquisition of IP Exchange in Germany, in November 2021.

The transaction includes three data centers – two in Munichstein (near Basel) and one in Biel – with a total area of 13,000 m2, more than 7.5 MW of maximum IT power capacity and opportunities for further expansion. The data centers are interconnected via a high-speed backbone fiber optic network and have a strong position around the Basel and Biel-Bern regions.

With this acquisition, NorthC Datacenters further expands its growing network of regional data centers in Northwest Europe and can now serve colocation customers operating in Switzerland. With the continuing digital transformation and development of the cloud, IoT, AI and 5G, the company envisions itself as excellently positioned to meet the needs of organizations for hybrid multi-cloud solutions, colocation services and connectivity solutions, all “at the edge.”

“The acquisition of these three colocation data centers and connectivity services is an important next step in NorthC’s European growth strategy, following the acquisition of Germany’s IPX,” said Alexandra Schless, CEO at NorthC Datacenters.

NorthC’s European Growth Strategy

NorthC’s regional presence would help the company in differentiating itself through a “personal, customer-centric approach” and the creation of regional ecosystems close to where companies operate and offer their services to end users. This acquisition would provide NorthC with a solid platform to build a leading regional network in Switzerland, similar to its Dutch network of regional data centers.

“The acquisition of these three colocation data centers and connectivity services is an important next step in NorthC’s European growth strategy, following the acquisition of Germany’s IPX. We are delighted to welcome these operations and the experienced team to our organization,” said Alexandra Schless, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at NorthC Datacenters. “We believe that a platform of regional data centers with a broad geographic reach will allow our customers to optimize their redundant infrastructure and benefit from regional ecosystems. This acquisition also enables NorthC to build on its extensive fiber infrastructure, on the one hand, and to integrate its existing three data centers into NorthC, on the other. Further synergies between the data centers in Switzerland and the rest of the NorthC organization will provide opportunities for expansion and optimization of our service portfolio both for our customers and also across the entire Group.”

The completion of this acquisition is subject to customary conditions. NorthC was advised by Greenhill, which acted as M&A advisor. Hogan Lovells and Prager Dreifuss served as legal advisors to the transaction.
