Session: Leveraging slow logs and ESRally for workload specific performance benchmarks
One of the largest social media firm running 18 clusters with 8 TB of user activity (posts, comments, video analysis, etc) wanted to determine the best hardware platform to migrate their workloads. The documents and queries were unique to their use case and hence a generic ESRally test was not replicating production activity. During this session, we will be showcasing how Slow logs from Elasticsearch were leveraged to create custom tracks in ESRally. Post this exercise, the firm was able to create and have an up to date performance benchmark that replicated production activity. The investment in building this utility also helped the firm to run automated performance benchmarks before major releases.
