EnterpriseDB (EDB), a worldwide provider of enterprise-grade Postgres products and database compatibility solutions, has announced that its cloud database products were certified for use on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud (US) Region. Clearing this hurdle expands access to the cloud for government agencies, which have aggressively deployed Postgres to meet open source and cost savings goals.
AWS GovCloud (US) is an AWS Region in the U.S. that is designed to meet the higher regulatory, security and compliance requirements of government agencies and has been certified to support sensitive workloads. EDB has now been cleared to offer government agencies access to two new Postgres solutions in the AWS Cloud.
“EDB’s Postgres Plus Advanced Server on Amazon Web Services means government agencies can move away from costly traditional vendors and slash costs, without sacrificing performance,” said Marc Linster, Senior Vice President, Products and Services, EnterpriseDB. “End users benefit by pairing such an advanced open source relational database as Postgres with the reach and flexibility of AWS’ global cloud infrastructure.”
More than 50 federal agencies depend on EDB and Postgres, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Labor and multiple agencies throughout the Department of Defense (DoD).
Compatibility for Oracle
Postgres is one of the world’s most advanced open source relational databases, while new features and capabilities in recent releases would have enhanced performance, manageability and ease-of-use. Postgres’ expanded NoSQL capabilities and the ability to use Postgres for building geospatial applications using PostGIS have helped fuel the popularity of Postgres. EDB has extended Postgres with additional business-critical capabilities, database compatibility for Oracle to ease migrations and enterprise-class tools for replication, high availability, monitoring and manageability.
EDB offers two Postgres cloud products on AWS Marketplace, Postgres Plus Cloud Database Advanced and Postgres Plus Cloud Database Basic. Both products provide specialized support for Postgres while the Advanced edition includes the additional EDB’s enhancements, tools and database compatibility for Oracle.
More than 2,700 enterprises, governments and other organizations worldwide use EnterpriseDB software, support, training and professional services to integrate open source software into their existing data infrastructures. Based in Bedford, MA, EnterpriseDB is backed by strategic and other investors like Red Hat and IBM.
