All-Flash Company Pure Storage Extends VMware Integration with New Solutions for Private Clouds

Pure Storage (NYSE: PSTG), an all-flash data platform vendor, has extended collaboration with VMware to enable mutual customers with “the performance, simplicity and resiliency” needed for their cloud environments. The support for VMware vSphere Metro Storage Cluster, vSphere Virtual Volumes, and the VMware Validated Design, would provide more options for mutual customers to help them achieve “always-on operations, increased per-VM control, and ease of deployment of their private cloud.”

Pure Storage‘s all-inclusive software, Purity 5.0, now includes support for ActiveCluster, an active/active synchronous replication and multi-site stretch cluster solution, that would easily deliver zero RPO and zero RTO across racks, data centers, or metro regions at no extra cost.

Adding ActiveCluster to a FlashArray configuration would be achieved with a non-disruptive software update. Support with vSphere Metro Storage Cluster would ensure an end-to-end “highly available” virtualized environment to support Tier 1, mission-critical applications.

Certified VMware Partner

To date, conventional synchronous replication and stretch cluster solutions would have been complex and costly, with setups ranging from days to weeks and involving hundreds of pages of manuals. Additionally, the license fees, external gateways, and the frequent need for outside professional services would have added to the pain and expense. With ActiveCluster, these obstacles have been eliminated with only four steps to complete set up, says Pure Storage. One new command and no customer owned 3rd site mediator would be required to deliver true business continuity.

“We are excited to have Pure Storage, a leader in all-flash systems, in our Certified Partner Architecture program,” said John Gilmartin, Vice President and General Manager, Integrated Systems Business Unit, VMware. “Together we can help our mutual customers accelerate IT modernization with integrations for better manageability, availability and a software-defined data center approach to the private cloud. All powered by a high-performance storage solution to run and consolidate key mission-critical applications. Through these efforts, organizations can realize simplicity and reliability in an agile and validated architecture.”

Deploy a Private Cloud

Pure achieved certification of its VMware Validated Design for Software-Defined Data Center in the VMware Certified Partner Architecture program. Pure and VMware jointly tested and validated an architecture enabling mutual customers to build a scalable SDDC that automates IT while empowering developers with self-service infrastructure, so IT can accelerate the delivery of essential applications on a private cloud. The VMware Validated Design certified for Pure consists of VMware vSphere, NSX, vRealize and Pure FlashArray.

These solutions are all supported by an all-flash platform from Pure Storage that would deliver data reduction, encryption for all data, consistent sub-ms latency, 99.9999% availability, non-disruptive upgrades, predictive analytics and an “Evergreen Storage” ownership model.

“We are extremely excited about the results of our collaboration efforts with VMware over the years. Our Pure Storage on VMware SDDC reference architecture, along with support for Virtual Volumes and vSphere Metro Storage Cluster, offers customers access to a simple, all-flash storage platform that delivers reliability, simplicity, efficiency and access to continuous innovation,” said Rajiev Rajavasireddy, VP of Solutions, Pure Storage. “Our partnership with VMware allows us to combine best of breed technologies to deliver a worry-free comprehensive private cloud.”
