First Colo, a German provider of colocation, managed services, and DDoS-protection with data centers in Germany and the Netherlands, has announced the opening of a new data center in Frankfurt am Main with a capacity of up to 5000 servers. The new construction is an expansion of First Colo’s existing data center presence in Frankfurt am Main.
The expansion means that First Colo again had to invest millions in the Frankfurt am Main colocation facility, its information and network technologies investments not included. In addition to regular 42 HE racks, supplementary ½ racks (20 HE) as well as ¼ racks (10 HE) are offered. These are available over separated cable routing and would offer a high degree of security.
High capacity network
Through the implementation of highly efficient climate technology, significantly less energy is required to cool the IT equipment inside First Colo’s new colocation facility. “We will save 1 million euro’s in electricity costs over the next ten years according to the status-quo-calculations,” said Adam Grzesik, sales representative at First Colo.
The data center is located close to the DE-CIX, one of the largest Internet nodes in the world. Connectivity to First Colo’s own data network takes place over an optical fiber infrastructure with multiple redundant services from a level of performance of up to 100 gigabytes of data throughput volume.
The entire capacity of the First Colo backbone was extended to 250 Gbit/s and is continuously growing. “It means that we also have the bandwidth for large reserves in the future,” said First Colo’s executive director Jerome Evans. “This way we can offer our commercial customers scalable and data intensive services.”
