Global Colocation Provider CyrusOne Expands Midwest Presence with New 23-Acre Land Purchase

Global colocation solutions provider, CyrusOne (NASDAQ: CONE), has announced the purchase of land located at 32W 130 Molitor Road, Aurora, Illinois. The approximate 23 acres is located adjacent to the suburban Chicago data center CyrusOne acquired from CME Group earlier in April.

The newly purchased parcel of land is planned for development over the next several years, and is expected to leverage a shared ecosystem with CyrusOne’s existing Aurora colocation facility, including connectivity to the CME Globex global trading platform and a massive 90-MW substation.

“This new land purchase enables CyrusOne to stay ahead of the rapid growth in colocation demand within the Chicago market, particularly among financial services companies,” said Kevin Timmons, chief technology officer (CTO), CyrusOne. “Upon completion, buildings across the campus are expected to have seamless connectivity to the world’s largest futures exchange, and provide customers with access to a wide range of retail colocation services, cloud connectivity, and carriers.”

CyrusOne’s acquisition of the current Aurora data center in April expanded CyrusOne’s portfolio to more than 30 data centers across the United States and overseas. The sale-leaseback transaction included a 428,000-square-foot colocation facility, 15 acres of developable land, and provided customers involved in the global financial markets with connectivity and proximity to the CME Globex platform.

The Aurora data center is located in suburban Chicago. A “high-speed, high-capacity” network connection is available directly to downtown Chicago’s telecommunications hub, with a “strong” network offering to accommodate customers with specific latency and/or replication needs. As part of CyrusOne’s National IX (Internet Exchange) platform, the Aurora colocation data center will supply interconnection to other CyrusOne data centers.
