Hurricane Electric, one of the world’s largest IPv6-native IP network providers, has added two new points-of-presence (PoPs) in Canada, at Global Server Centre located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and at DataHive located in Calgary, Alberta. The new PoPs will provide Canadian customers with reduced latency and router hops.
Already established at Equinix in Toronto, and Cologix in Vancouver and Montreal, Hurricane Electric is strengthening its commitment to the Canadian market with these two added PoPs to its IP network in new locations, and will provide high speed IPv4 and IPv6 Internet connectivity through 100BaseT, 1GigE, 10Gbps, and 100GE service.

Global Expansion IP Network
The announcement marks Hurricane Electric’s fourth global IP network expansion in just one month. The other expansions include new points-of-presence at Interxion in Copenhagen, Denmark, at Interxion in Madrid, Spain, and at Telx in New York.
Within its global IP network, Hurricane Electric is connected to 60 major internet exchange points and exchanges traffic directly with more than 2,900 different networks. Hurricane Electric has four redundant paths crossing North America, two separate paths between the U.S. and Europe, and rings in Europe and Asia. In addition to its global network, Hurricane Electric provides colocation services and dedicated servers. The company owns and operates two data centers in Fremont, California, including Fremont 2, its newest 208,000 ft2 facility.
Hurricane Electric first deployed IPv6 on its global backbone in 2001. Hurricane Electric’s global Internet backbone is IPv6-nativ, which means it does not rely on internal tunnels for its IPv6 connectivity. IPv6 is offered as a core service and every customer is provided IPv6 connectivity, as well as classic IPv4 connectivity.
