Global Switch, owner and operator of large-scale, carrier neutral data center space in Europe and Asia-Pacific, has launched the first phase of a planned €240 million expansion to its existing data center in Amsterdam. The large colocation campus, once completed, will provide 64,000 sq m of data center space.
This first phase of this data center expansion was pre-let to an international telecommunications services provider. The design of the first phase, which has achieved a BREEAM-NL Datacenters “Very Good” Design Stage certificate, provides an average power density of 1,500 watts per sq m and is built with flexibility to deliver much higher densities if required.
Energy-efficient PUE: 1.25
Global Switch’s colocation site expansion is supported by the latest high efficiency hybrid dry coolers which use adiabatic cooling to ensure maximum utilization of the ambient conditions prevalent in Northern Europe with an annualized design Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of around 1.25.
The extension has full access to the existing network dense low latency environment that Global Switch Amsterdam benefits from, including 35 carriers, over 50 other network service providers, and the AMS-IX who are all located in the data center.
The €240 million expansion will eventually provide Global Switch in Amsterdam a total of 25,400 sq m and once all the planned phases have been completed, the Amsterdam-based campus will provide 64,000 sq m of colocation space and lead to a planned capacity of circa 100MW of power from diverse supplies.
