GTT Extends DDoS Scrubbing Center Network, Opens New Center in Spain

GTT Communications, a worldwide supplier of managed network and cybersecurity services to international organizations, has extended its network of DDoS scrubbing centers to battle the rise in the size and complexity of cyberattacks. Together with DDoS protection expert company Corero Network Security, GTT has opened its 10th distributed denial of service scrubbing center – in Madrid, Spain. This expansion spans all four hemispheres of the world.

This move was made by GTT in response to increasing customer demand for these services. Scrubbing centers are responsible for receiving network traffic and removing any malevolent traffic that may be affiliated with a DDoS attack. This is done to ensure that only ‘scrubbed’ secure traffic is delivered to the destination that it was intended for.

“The expansion of our worldwide DDoS protection platform creates a formidable defense for our customers against threats to their networks that have been increasing in size and complexity,” said James Karimi, CISO and CIO at GTT.

GTT’s worldwide DDoS protection platform currently consists of 10 scrubbing centers located in various locations across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. The center in Madrid is the most recent addition to the platform. Within GTT’s worldwide Tier 1 IP network backbone, the GTT platform makes use of Corero’s next-generation DDoS technology to identify and screen out fraudulent traffic and complicated threats in the network core in real time.

The addition of this new location in Spain would not only strengthen GTT’s global network but also increase the number of countries in which its DDoS scrubbing facilities are available. The scrubbing center could not be situated in a more suitable location than Madrid, according to GTT, which is not only an important data center gateway but also holds a strategic international position that connects Spain with Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Because of this expenditure, GTT would be able to provide its clients in the region with enhanced network and security capabilities, which would help reduce the severity of attacks and keep network traffic congestion to a minimum.

Multi-Vector Spread Spectrum Pulse Attacks

According to Corero, 2022 was yet another year that broke records for network-based DDoS attacks, which are designed to overpower the available bandwidth of their intended victims. The security research team at Corero found that the number of multi-vector spread spectrum pulse attacks, which are intended to avoid traditional DDoS monitoring and prevention capabilities, has increased by 39%.

“The expansion of our worldwide DDoS protection platform, integrated with our global Tier 1 Internet backbone, creates a formidable defense for our customers against threats to their networks that have been increasing in size and complexity,” said James Karimi, CISO and CIO at GTT. “Our customers now have a formidable defense against threats to their networks that have been increasing in size and complexity. Our newest scrubbing center in Spain is ideally positioned for the huge amounts of Internet traffic that flow into this key digital hub, ensuring our high-capacity Internet customers are protected from the growing threat of cyberattacks.”

The CTO at Corero Network Security, Ashley Stephenson, stated that throughout the year 2022, DDoS attacks became more sophisticated while at the same time, the DDoS attack surface increased. “We are thrilled to extend our longstanding relationship with GTT, which will ensure that their customers have the most advanced DDoS protection in place,” he added. “The number of documented attacks has been on the rise, and assailants’ objectives and goals have undergone significant changes in recent years.”

GTT’s portfolio of services includes SD-WAN, cybersecurity, Internet, phone, and other communication choices. This portfolio is used to provide services to thousands of national and international businesses. Its services are uniquely enabled by its top-ranked, global, Tier 1 IP backbone, which spans more than 260 cities on six continents.

The Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) prevention solutions offered by Corero Network Security are among the most advanced in the industry. Its technology provides scalable protection capabilities against both external DDoS attackers and internal DDoS threats, in even the most complex edge and subscriber environments, ensuring Internet service availability and uptime. Marlborough, Massachusetts, in the United States of America, and Edinburgh, United Kingdom, both serve as major operational locations for Corero, with the company’s headquarters located in London, United Kingdom. Under the trading symbol CNS, the business is traded on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange.
