IKOULA, a French web hosting, dedicated server, and cloud computing provider, has selected CloudStack as an open-source cloud management platform for its cloud offerings. IKOULA chose the open-source route to manage their cloud environment, combining the power of CloudStack with the ease of the open-source hypervisor XCP-ng.
The turnkey solution was carefully chosen in accordance with the web hosting provider’s long-term goal to ensure continuous product innovation, reliability, and simplicity for its clients.
IKOULA stated that the cloud management solution allows the company to be one of Europe’s most innovative cloud and managed services providers, with a diverse cloud solution offering. Furthermore, many clients would leverage their CloudStack-managed infrastructure to deploy memory- and storage-oriented VMs, as well as Kubernetes clusters.
Combine CloudStack with XCP-ng
The cloud and web hosting market represents one of the most competitive in the tech industry, according to IKOULA. Companies must continually innovate, be innovative, and provide outstanding service and support while maintaining a competitive pricing. IKOULA made a conscious decision to use this open-source technology stack. Because they are open-source, they eliminate any vendor lock-ins and provide the firm complete control over their cloud infrastructure. Other key advantages would include easy infrastructure administration, assured uptime, and seamless scalability.
“It is essential for us as a hosting company to know exactly what is running on our servers. This is a decisive advantage in terms of security,” said Joaquim Dos Santos, R&D Director at Ikoula. “We decided to go with open-source solutions, as they deliver the reliability and flexibility we need. When it comes to debugging issues, we can quickly look in the code and fix it or ask the community for help on the error. CloudStack and XCP-ng have an active and growing community and constantly evolving products, which is a huge benefit.”
IKOULA would also benefit financially from using CloudStack and XCP-ng, which is critical in their market niche. Operating XCP-ng with CloudStack, according to their team, results in much lower expenses than alternative systems. They’ve also cut back on relying on outside parties to assist them manage their cloud environment.
IKOULA now handles a big CloudStack system with over 100 hosts in eight distinct zones and over 6600 clients. They can do system updates and upgrades in real time without affecting end-user service.
