How to Save +80% by Migrating to GCP: Optiva's Migration to GCP with Pythian (Cloud Next '19)

Optiva, a Canada-based company that develops software for communications service providers, already had plans to migrate to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to become more agile and reduce costs. But when it acquired another company, it suddenly found itself in possession of many outdated assets located in data centers all over the world—complicating its goal of quickly and easily moving all of its assets to the cloud. Facing a complex and daunting task, the client turned to Google, and partner Pythian. Jamie and Keith will tell the migration story of 3500 machines in a period of 3-4 months, with little downtime in order to create happy customers and reduce overall costs.
The audience will hear about the in depth analysis done in discovery of Optiva’s environment and organizational structure, and how the optimal cloud migration pattern was determined and live migration technology was used to eliminate downtime. They will also hear how cloud-native best practices were applied to tune and enhance the company’s servers and operations systems to ensure optimal performance in GCP.
