InMotion Hosting makes it easy for you to transfer a domain. You have 2 choices: the Domain Concierge Service or Transferring the Domain Yourself.

    Domain Concierge Service

The Domain Concierge Service is a paid service where InMotion Hosting will take care of the transfer for you.

In order to use the Domain Concierge service, please contact our live technical support team via phone/chat/or email. You will be charged per each domain transferred.

Transferring a Domain Yourself (manually transferring a domain)

    Here are the steps:

Login to the Account Management Panel

    Click on Transfer Domain icon

Make sure to read the requirements before transferring a domain, then scroll down and click on BEGIN TRANSFERRING YOUR DOMAIN. You will then see the screen that says: Let Us Walk You Through It or Choose the Advanced User Option.

Choosing the “Let us walk you through it” option will take you the process step-by-step. To choose this option, click on Begin Walk Through:

Each option will start with checking the domain’s availability for transfer. Type in your domain name to run the check.

Once you have confirmed that the domain is available for transfer, you will need to deal with any domain privacy that is masking your domain’s registration information. Domain transfers require that domain privacy be removed before they can be transferred.

The process for removing domain privacy may differ depending on the domain registrar. Please contact your domain registrar if you are unsure of how to remove your domain privacy.

Click on the check box to confirm that your domain has no domain privacy in order to proceed with your domain transfer.

The next step involves confirming the name servers that will be assigned to the domain.

This page will provide you the information for the correct name servers and also other possibilities. Confirm that your name servers are pointed where they should be, then click on the check box to proceed.

The next step (step 4) involves retrieving your Authorization code.

Step 5 confirms that you can access the Administrative email for your domain.

In step 6 you will be presented with the Order Form for the domain transfer. When you have completed step 6 you will see a confirmation that the order has been processed.

The final step (step 7) requires that you wait for an email from Melbourne IT. This email typically takes 1-3 days to arrive. The email will continue the final instructions to confirm the transfer. You should confirm the transfer within 2 days of receiving this email, otherwise, Melbourne will cancel the transfer. Make sure to the read the instructions in Step 7. The most confusing thing that Melbourne IT’s confirmation email requests is that you enter a “PASSWORD”. This password is the authorization code that you obtained earlier.

After you follow the instructions in the email, the transfer is COMPLETE.

If you choose the Advanced User Option, you will be requested to verify that the domain is available for transfer, then it will skip to step 4 (authorization code) for the transfer of the domain. The Advanced User option assumes that you have removed domain privacy and have access to the administrator email for your domain.
