DE-CIX, one of the world’s biggest Internet Exchange (IX) operators and home to a large carrier and data center neutral interconnection ecosystem, has added Phoenix, Arizona (AZ) as its fifth IX in the United States.

After a year of double-digit growth and expansion in 2020 by adding multi-service interconnection platforms in Chicago and Richmond, Phoenix is set to become DE-CIX’s western-most IX location. It would help fortify DE-CIX’s connectivity options across the United States while enhancing gateway access between North America, South America, and Europe.

Phoenix (AZ) is the country’s fifth-largest city, located just five hours from both Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and is home to one of the country’s largest data center markets. DE-CIX’s expansion into Phoenix would solidify the company’s position as a large carrier and data center neutral IX in the U.S., with low latency proximity to Los Angeles, which would be less than 5ms from Phoenix.

We continue to cement our position as the largest carrier and data center neutral interconnection ecosystem in North America and the world.”

DE-CIX Phoenix will be available at “leading” data centers throughout the market. DE-CIX New York, which started in 2014, currently has over 260 networks linked.

DE-CIX has quite some experience already in launching new markets. With over 260 networks, DE-CIX New York, which started in 2014, is a large neutral IX supplier in the New York/New Jersey market. DE-CIX Dallas, which started in 2016, has over 100 networks linked, while DE-CIX Chicago, which debuted in 2020, is accessible from over 13 data center sites. DE-CIX Richmond also debuted in 2020.

DE-CIX (German Commercial Internet Exchange) is one of the largest Internet Exchange operators in the world next to AMS-IX (Amsterdam) and LINX (London). DE-CIX links over 2300 network operators (carriers), Internet service providers (ISPs), content providers, and business networks from over 100 countries through its 28 sites in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia, delivering peering, cloud, and interconnection services. DE-CIX in Frankfurt, Germany, has a data capacity of over 10 Terabits per second (Tbps) and more than 1000 network connections.
