Kao Data, a data center developer/operator and colocation provider for enterprise, cloud, HPC and AI applications, has announced the expansion of its Harlow data center campus in the United Kingdom, with construction now underway on a new 10MW, NVIDIA DGX-Ready, and OCP-Ready facility. It’s their second data center located at this location.
The new data center, named Kao Data KLON-02, will build on the company’s high-performance infrastructure, energy efficiency, and sustainability capabilities, providing clients with a reduced carbon footprint. It follows Infratil Limited’s recent investment and the launch of its Slough, UK data center last month.
Kao Data’s KLON-02 facility will have a capacity of up to 10MW and will house around 1,800 racks of IT equipment across 3,400m2 of technical space and four Technology Suites, all of which will be energy efficient.
OCP Accepted Racks

When fully operational, the facility will be NVIDIA DGX-Ready data center certified and OCP-Ready, allowing HPC, AI, and enterprise computing users to scale quickly and efficiently by deploying pre-populated OCP Accepted racks or bespoke high density architectures within its hyperscale-inspired design.
Like KLON-01, the new carrier-neutral data center will have access to low-latency connectivity via key multiple networks such as BT Openreach, euNetworks, Jisc/Janet, the London Internet Exchange (LINX), LUMEN, and Vorboss.
In addition, Kao Data’s continuous collaboration with Megaport would enable high-performance connection to all major Tier I and Tier II cloud service providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud.
“KLON-02 will build on the award-winning design and build principles of our KLON-01 facility, offering greater efficiencies for our customers’ colocation environments,” said Paul Finch, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Kao Data. “It’s exciting to be able to continue to innovate within our construction, engineering, and technical principles, and I am confident our second facility at Harlow will raise the bar again for sustainable, energy efficient data centers.”
Sustainability
The highest sustainability features will be at the heart of the design and construction of KLON-02, from ensuring that the new architecture is BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certified and that both its Technology Suites and related cooling infrastructure conform to hyperscale design principles, to ensuring that clients’ mission critical workloads are delivered with a SLA-backed PUE of 1.2. In addition, the backup generators will use 100 percent renewable energy and 100 percent sustainable, hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
“The expansion of our Harlow campus is another strategic milestone in Kao Data’s evolution as we continue to scale the business’s high performance data center offering across the UK and Europe,” said Lee Myall, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Kao Data. “With our second 10MW facility in Harlow following the launch of our 16MW data center in Slough closely, Kao Data is bringing advanced colocation capacity at industrial scale to the west and east of London.”
