KPN Business Continuity Management Expands DR and Backup Footprint in The Netherlands with NL-ix

nl-ix-internet-exchangeKPN Business Continuity Management (BCM) Business can now provide its disaster recovery (DR) and backup services “in a cost-efficient way” in all relevant data centers in the Netherlands by cooperating with NL-ix – a pan-European Interconnect Exchange based in the Netherlands. The added connectivity beyond their own KPN data centers would open up these business continuity services to a much larger group of business end-users in the enterprise and SME segments.

Building on the connectivity services provided by NL-ix, KPN BCM offers its IT disaster response services 24/7, providing both physical and virtual solutions. If a disaster occurs, for example, a fire, power outage or a crashed IT environment, KPN BCM would ensure that the customer is back online again within a short time frame. This rapid response is made possible by restoring a backup and rebooting the IT environment, or by switching to a permanent replica of the primary IT environment located in one of KPN’s own certified data centers.

“More and more companies are aware of their dependence on IT and data. As a result, smaller companies are now also willing to invest in backup and disaster recovery solutions,” said Anton Rietveld, commercial product manager for Business Continuity & Data Management at KPN Business. “Since we can now use the network operated by NL-ix, we can offer our services to a much broader audience. It’s nice to work with a partner who understands the business, acknowledges customer interests, and collaborates with us to achieve solutions quickly.”

KPN Data Centers

KPN Business Continuity already provided its backup and recovery services from the KPN data centers. This meant however that clients needed to have a direct connection to a KPN data center. Using the NL-ix network, KPN can now offer its backup and DR services to a broader audience. Also, NL-ix customers are now able to easily procure KPN’s disaster recovery and backup services.

“We think it’s great to be able to work with KPN Business Continuity to provide quick, easy access to backup and disaster recovery services for a larger target group of customers,” said Jan Hoogeboom, founder of NL-ix. “Since the network is already there, it is now also affordable for companies that want to store relatively small amounts of data. Next to that, it is significantly expanding the footprint of KPN’s business services in the Netherlands, enabling them to serve a broader audience.”
