LAMP in Containers, Terrence Ryan, Google, TechSummit Berlin 2017

LAMP – Linux Apache MySQL and PHP – became a standard stack for building Web applications since the dot com boom. With most LAMP stacks hosted in shared environments or virtual machines, the time is right to consider containers, according to Terrence Ryan, a Developer Advocate at Google. Ryan talks about best practices for taking monolith LAMP apps and moving them over to containers. Beware, if you take a monolithic app and replace it with Kubernetes it can be more complex and expensive. So take a look at the LAMP architecture you already have – from the database servers to the various apps – and get the most out of container technology first before attempting to move everything to the cloud.
