Latest Platform9 Release Helps Simplify Multi-Cloud Kubernetes Deployments

Multicloud Kubernetes-as-a-Service provider Platform9 has added a variety of new enterprise capabilities to its Platform9 5.4 release to simplify the management of multi-cluster and multicloud Kubernetes deployments. Key advances would include the Profile Engine for template-based cross-cluster governance, IDE enhancements for fast access to running workloads, user-specified upgrade strategies, KubeVirt enhancements, and CIS Benchmarking compliance.

“Focused on multicloud governance, security, and ease-of-use features, this product release further simplifies Kubernetes by introducing new developer-focused features that enable instant access to any running Pod, Deployment, or Service,” said Madhura Maskasky, Platform9 co-founder and VP of Product. “The result is tangible and significant productivity gains through the simplicity of consistent single-pane-of-glass management and governance.”

Users may quickly construct upstream Kubernetes clusters using Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK) on bare metal, AWS, and Azure IaaS layers, and import clusters from EKS, AKS, and GKE with a few clicks.

Featured updates in this Platform9 5.4 release include:

GitOps Profile Engine – Profile Engine allows administrators to specify cluster settings as desired state templates and then deploy them to any target cluster, enabling GitOps-style automation in multicloud setups. The target cluster’s status is updated during the deployment process to verify that it complies with the profile. Users may utilize comparison and drift analytics to discover changes in compliance setups and take necessary remedial action. It would be easy to supply numerous clusters for new applications or teams, rebuild clusters, or compare and evaluate differences when cluster setup is handled by declarative profiles, which may be viewed as versioned source code. To fight sprawl, security vulnerabilities, and a lack of policy conformity, the Profile Engine assures consistency, compliance, and standardization.

Upgrade Strategies – Clients may want to be able to choose how and when they upgrade their production clusters. There are three upgrading options in this release:

  • Sequential: Worker nodes are upgraded in a rolling order
  • Parallel Percentage: Users may choose a percentage of nodes to be upgraded at the same time
  • Batch: Users can manually select nodes to be upgraded

Storage Classes/PV/PVC/CSI Drivers – This version adds extensive drill-down views of objects across all cluster types, allowing for unprecedented access into storage details right from the user interface. With the auto-detection of CSI drivers for one-click deployment of persistent storage, adding a new storage class is simple.

KubeVirt Enhancements – Platform9 Managed KubeVirt allows customers to run classic VM apps as well as containers on a single platform that is completely managed. Users can create VMs, attach disks, start/stop VM instances, see instance information, and much more with just a few clicks in this new version, which includes a management UI and wizard-based configuration and provisioning.

CIS Benchmark – Platform9 has achieved CIS Benchmark compliance, further strengthening our security posture, which already includes SoC2 compliance, encrypted networking across Clusters, Pods, and Nodes, encryption at rest, and a ZeroTrust SaaS architecture.

Other significant updates would include a “10x improvement” in UI performance and responsiveness; drill-down details on storage, pods, deployments, and services views; logs, events across all cluster types; support for Kubernetes 1.21 and containerd.

Platform9’s SaaS-based closed-loop automation, which includes deployment, monitoring, alerting, self-healing, proactive troubleshooting and support, would ensure a 99.9% multicluster, multicloud SLA. Platform9’s CKA-certified solution architects and customer success teams work as an extension of clients’ SRE and DevOps teams, offering in-depth K8s on-demand Kubernetes knowledge and proactively addressing issues 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
