Leaseweb, a large provider of hosting and cloud services from the Netherlands with offices globally and its clientele worldwide, has opened a subsidiary in Tokyo, Japan. After opening a data center in Japan earlier this year, the new Tokyo-based office will assist the strategic needs of Leaseweb clients moving to Japan while also allowing Leaseweb to expand its operations in Japan.

Leaseweb’s expansion into Japan would add significant scale to its position in the APAC area which currently encompasses Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong. Pieter Kraan has been named Managing Director of Leaseweb Hong Kong and Leaseweb Japan, where he will spearhead the company’s efforts to deliver cloud and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) capabilities to businesses both locally and worldwide.

“We see the market in Japan as a major opportunity to support the growth and success of our customers across the region,” said Arno Witvliet, Chief Sales Officer at Leaseweb Global. “The launch of our data center in Japan earlier this year was a very important step in the strategic development of Leaseweb in APAC and also on the world stage.”

“The launch of this subsidiary in Japan is another important milestone for the Leaseweb team as we continue to scale to meet client needs,” said Pieter Kraan, Managing Director of Leaseweb Hong Kong and Japan.

Leaseweb’s APAC area is one of the company’s fastest expanding areas worldwide. Leaseweb’s data center location offerings in APAC include two tier-3 facilities in Singapore, a recently opened data center in Tokyo, and others in Hong Kong and Australia.

Since 2013, Leaseweb APAC has been serving enterprises across a wide range of key sectors, including Martech, Adtech, Fintech, iGaming, Big Tech, Cyber Security, and SaaS.

Pieter Kraan will be in charge of the Japanese expansion. Mr. Kraan is a seasoned director and general manager with a track record of building firms in the IT and services industries, having previously worked for Canon and Runway86.

“I am delighted to be leading the business in such an important market, and the launch of our subsidiary in Japan is another important milestone for the team as we continue to scale to meet client needs,” said Pieter Kraan, Managing Director of Leaseweb Hong Kong and Japan. “I’m looking forward to building on our success across APAC and partnering with ambitious businesses to help them reach their potential.”
