Lenovo has added the new ThinkEdge SE450 server to its ThinkEdge portfolio, bringing an artificial intelligence (AI) platform right at the edge to accelerate business insights. Lenovo’s ThinkEdge SE450 server is one of the first NVIDIA-Certified Edge systems leveraging NVIDIA GPUs for corporate and industrial AI at the edge applications, giving maximum accelerated performance.
Lenovo’s ThinkEdge SE450 server system is designed to push the boundaries of server locations, delivering real-time insights with greater computational power and flexible deployment features that can handle diverse AI applications while allowing customers to grow. It would satisfy the needs of a wide range of essential workloads with a unique, quieter go-anywhere form factor that features a lower depth for easy installation in space-constrained situations.
“As companies of all sizes continue to work on solving real-world challenges, they require powerful infrastructure solutions to help generate faster insights that inform competitive business strategies, directly at edge sites,” said Charles Ferland, Vice President and General Manager, Edge Computing and Communication Service Providers at Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG). “With the ThinkEdge SE450 server and in collaboration with our broad ecosystem of partners, Lenovo is delivering on the promise of AI at the edge, whether it’s enabling greater connectivity for smart cities to detect and respond to traffic accidents or addressing predictive maintenance needs on the manufacturing line.”
Edge-to-Cloud
The GPU-powered server is designed specifically for vertically specialized edge locations, with a ruggedized design that can resist a broader operating temperature as well as high dust, shock, and vibration for hard conditions.

Security at the edge is critical, and Lenovo helps organizations to negotiate the edge-to-cloud frontier by utilizing robust, more secure infrastructure solutions that are intended to reduce security risks and data threats. The ThinkEdge portfolio includes a new locking bezel to help prevent unwanted access and sophisticated security features to further safeguard data. It also includes a selection of connection and security solutions that are simply deployed and more securely controlled in today’s remote situations, according to Lenovo.
The ThinkEdge SE450 server is based on the newest 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPU with Intel Deep Learning Boost technology, with all-flash storage for performing AI and analytics at the edge and designed for intelligence delivery. Intel has certified it as an Intel Select Solution for vRAN. This pre-validated solution would remove the guesswork from the evaluation and procurement process by meeting strictly defined hardware and software configuration requirements. It would also meet rigorous system-wide performance benchmarks, allowing communications service providers to accelerate deployment and reduce risk.
“Our collaboration with Lenovo helps enterprises across many sectors drive business value through network transformation and edge computing,” said Jeni Panhorst, Vice President and General Manager of the Network & Edge Platforms Division at Intel. “Resilient and flexible edge servers built with 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors provide enhanced performance enabling the delivery of innovative AI-driven services where customers will expect them.”
AI-Ready Solutions at the Edge
Because edge site locations are frequently unattended and difficult to access, the ThinkEdge SE450 server can be automatically deployed and maintained with Lenovo Open Cloud Automation (LOC-A) and simply configured with Lenovo XClarity Orchestrator software. Remote connectivity to the server with entirely out-of-band wired or wireless access would eliminate the need for any needless trips to edge sites.
The Lenovo ThinkEdge SE450 server system is the product of numerous prototypes created using an agile hardware development methodology with partners and customers, with live trials running actual workloads in telecommunications, retail, and smart city environments. The AI-ready ThinkEdge SE450 server is especially intended to enable a broad ecosystem of partners to make it easier for clients to install these edge solutions. It is the ideal extension for the on-premise cloud, which presently supports Microsoft, NVIDIA, Red Hat, and VMware technologies, as organizations expand out their hybrid infrastructures from the cloud to the edge.
Lenovo’s products, which include a full portfolio of Edge servers, AI-ready storage, and solutions, are also accessible As-a-Service via Lenovo TruScale, which extends workloads from the edge to the cloud in a consumption-based model.
