LoginID, creators of the FIDO-powered passwordless authentication solution LoginID, has released its free to install WordPress plugin. The plugin would enable websites powered by WordPress to install strong passwordless authentication in five clicks. The solution also helps WordPress websites align to emerging and existing compliance regulations, such as PSD2 and GDPR.
The passwordless, regulatory compliant biometric login plugin is LoginID’s latest innovation that provides WordPress-created websites the ability to add passwordless, biometric sign on and registration. With this capability, WordPress websites can offer their users a secured, compliant way to login, thereby eliminating the risks of account takeovers, phishing, SIM swaps and man-in-the-middle attacks.
“Unlike other popular single-sign on solutions, user information cannot be used for tracking purposes, ensuring a private experience on websites that integrate the LoginID WordPress Plugin,” said Simon Law, CEO of LoginID. “The plugin can be easily installed by any WordPress developer in minutes, making it the fastest way to add FIDO-certified strong authentication into websites.”
WordPress Website Security
Developing a plugin that enables passwordless authentication will bolster the security for potentially over 35 million websites powered by WordPress.
The WordPress plugin allows websites to integrate FIDO-certified strong authentication in five clicks. It enables WordPress end users to register and authenticate through highly secured public key cryptography instead of more insecure and vulnerable methods such as passwords.
Benefits for website developers would include:
- Convenience – Eliminate the need for customers to enter a password when they log in to the WordPress website; Reduce customer abandonment rates by making transactions as seamless as possible
- Compliance – Become GDPR and PSD2 compliant with a FIDO-certified strong authentication solution
- Security – Boost website security through the use of multifactor authentication by replacing vulnerable static username/password credentials with FIDO-certified strong public/private key credentials
As a a FIDO-certified authentication provider, LoginID announced a $6 million round of seed funding in March this year to accelerate the adoption of a passwordless world. Strategic investors in LoginID include veteran payment and fintech entrepreneurs around the world. LoginID’s unique approach would add secure, FIDO-certified biometrics to any website, application or e-commerce, or banking brand.
LoginID provides a wide range of APIs and SDKs which give enterprises the ability to integrate FIDO-certified authentication “in as little as 15 minutes.” This level of authentication is usually complicated, time consuming to integrate and costly. Now brands can add a whole new layer of security and reduce fraud using biometrics, according to the company.
The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance was formed in July 2012 to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication technologies, and remedy the problems users face with creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords.
The FIDO Alliance is changing the nature of authentication with standards for simpler, stronger authentication that define an open, scalable, interoperable set of mechanisms that reduce reliance on passwords. FIDO Authentication would be stronger, private, and easier to use when authenticating to online services.
