Lumen Technologies (formerly CenturyLink) intends to strengthen its service capabilities in France, Switzerland, and Spain by the recent expansion of its fiber network infrastructure throughout Europe.

Lumen expanded its reach in France and Switzerland by building a new fiber line connecting three additional towns, Grenoble, Chambéry, and Annecy, that spans more than 180 miles between Lyon, France and Geneva, Switzerland. The national Lumen network rings in France are roughly 3,500 route miles long and 420 route miles long in Switzerland.

The company added a new stretch of more than 170 route miles between the city of Salou and the French border to complete its national fiber ring in Spain. Lumen also constructed a new metro network in Barcelona, which is linked to the MAREA trans-Atlantic subsea cable landing station in Sopelana. In Spain, the national Lumen network ring now covers over 1,060 route miles.

According to Lumen, these critical network additions bring high-speed fiber closer to end customers, resulting in “quicker connections, lower latency, and improved security” for a better user experience.
