Global cloud service provider iland, building its application and data protection cloud services on VMware technology, has been selected by the city of Geneseo, Illinois to provide cloud-based data backup and disaster recovery for the town’s municipal services.
Geneseo is using iland’s ‘Secure Cloud Backup for Veeam’ and Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) solutions to help keep city-wide public works services including police, electric, water, waste, and roadway running and available at all times. iland is paving the way to Geneseo’s first move to the cloud, spurred by a major gas main break that forced an evacuation of City Hall and shut down services for hours.
After the incident, Geneseo IT Director Garrett Griswold initiated a search for a cloud service provider that supports the city’s current VMware environment and Veeam on-premises storage. After evaluating several companies, Mr. Griswold recommended the Geneseo City Council select iland for its DRaaS and Secure Cloud Backup for Veeam solutions.
“I have been wanting to work with iland for a long time, and it took something like a major gas leak to be able to finally engage with them,” said Garrett Griswold. “Part of the reason I chose iland is based on their reputation for providing disaster recovery services and their ability to integrate easily with my VMware and Veeam environments. Since getting started, they continue to outperform my expectations.”
Veeam, VMware vCloud
iland Secure DRaaS enables IT workloads to be replicated from virtual or physical environments to a secured cloud infrastructure across nine global data centers. iland provides more than a decade of disaster recovery (DR) expertise, working closely with partners like Veeam to protect on-premise data and workloads, in addition to support for VMware vCloud environments.
“IT departments within state and local governments are often under-resourced, working with much smaller budgets than those enjoyed by their business peers,” said Dorothy Farris, vice president of SLED Sales, Americas at Veeam. “This makes it difficult for many to advance their operations to the cloud and protect themselves from disasters and malicious ransomware attacks. iland and Veeam help fill that void when it comes to backing up critical data to a secure cloud environment. Together, we’re connecting some of the smallest and largest city governments to the cloud with an easy-to-use and reliable cloud data management solution.”
iland also provides state and local customers with iland Catalyst, a complementary cloud assessment tool that would simplify the journey to the cloud and make it easier for organizations using VMware to model and right size cloud requirements for cloud backup, disaster recovery (DR) or migration without costly over-provisioning or detrimentally under-provisioning.
“iland is proud to help Geneseo and hundreds of cities around the world meet their IT challenges through a thoughtful and intelligent migration to the cloud,” said Brian Ussher, iland president and co-founder. “Whether it’s a team of certified IT compliance experts or cloud architects, iland has the resources and proven technology to help state and local governments address issues like ransomware, power outages and other disasters with cloud-based solutions that are affordable, simple and pain free.”
Headquartered in Houston, Texas and London, UK, iland delivers cloud services from its data centers throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
