OpenStack cloud company, Mirantis, and CoreOS have announced the integration of Mirantis OpenStack with CoreOS’ Tectonic, the first commercial platform for Kubernetes 1.0. The joint effort would bring enterprise-grade support and manageability to companies looking to combine the agility of OpenStack with the portability of Kubernetes and container technologies.
Kubernetes is an open source system for managing Google-scale containerized applications across multiple hosts, providing basic mechanisms for deployment, maintenance, and scaling of applications. It is lightweight, portable, extensible and self-healing.
Tectonic combines Kubernetes and the CoreOS stack in a commercial distribution, prepackaged with an enterprise-ready management dashboard, an integrated container registry and a supported, continuously up-to-date distributed platform.

CoreOS’ Tectonic combines Kubernetes and the CoreOS software portfolio in an integrated package, including a management console for workflows and dashboards, an integrated registry to build and share Linux containers, and additional tools to automate deployment and customize rolling updates. Tectonic runs on-premises or in public clouds hosting environments.

‘Google-like Infrastructure’
Mirantis has helped build and deploy some of the largest OpenStack clouds in the world, at companies such as Cisco, Comcast, Ericsson, NASA, Samsung and Symantec. The company is venture-backed by Insight Venture Partners, August Capital, Ericsson, Intel Capital, Sapphire Ventures and WestSummit Capital, with headquarters in Mountain View, California.
