New Cloud Native Developer Bootcamp Announced by Linux Foundation

The open-source focused Linux Foundation and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) which works to create sustainable ecosystems for cloud native software, have announced the immediate availability of a new Cloud Native Developer Bootcamp. It will teach participants how to design, build, and deploy cloud native applications in as little as six months.

Cloud computing skills are the most in-demand among employers, according to the most recent Open Source Jobs Report published by the Linux Foundation. It would indicate that understanding these topics is no longer optional. The Cloud Native Developer Bootcamp is aimed at existing developers, cloud architects, and anyone who are new to cloud native technologies.

Container adoption and Kubernetes have gone mainstream, according to the CNCF’s 2021 Cloud Native Survey, with 5.6 million engineers utilizing Kubernetes globally, accounting for 31 percent of all backend devs. Yet, this is still inadequate to fulfill current – let alone future – demand for talent, according to the CNCF. By making it easy for interested individuals to acquire training and a verified certification, the bootcamp will help address the persistent lack of certified cloud talent.

Open Source, DevOps, Kubernetes

This new bootcamp begins with an overview of open source software development, git, and Linux, before moving on to DevOps ideas and techniques, as well as site reliability engineering (SRE). The Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) certification and advanced training in utilizing GitOps for continuous delivery on Kubernetes with Flux will be given to participants once they have studied Kubernetes and containers for developers.

With 10-15 hours of effort each week, the new bootcamp may be finished in around six months. The following courses and exams are part of the program:

  • Introduction to Open Source Development, Git, and Linux (LFD201)
  • DevOps and SRE Fundamentals: Implementing Continuous Delivery (LFS261)
  • Containers for Developers and Quality Assurance (LFD254)
  • Kubernetes for Developers (LFD259)
  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
  • GitOps: Continuous Delivery on Kubernetes with Flux (LFS269)

The training courses being provided were chosen because they give the information and abilities needed to operate as a cloud native developer. The CKAD test, which is a performance-based certification exam, verifies that a bootcamp graduate has these capabilities, giving potential employers confidence in their talents.

Participants in the new bootcamp will also have access to a bootcamp-specific online community where they may communicate with other students and teachers, as well as four days of live virtual office hours with course instructors. For the next 12 months, candidates will have unrestricted access to the program. Participants will get a verified certificate of accomplishment and shareable online badge after completing all five courses and the CKAD test.

“Adoption of cloud native technologies by organizations around the world has truly crossed the chasm, with Kubernetes being a de facto component of most technology stacks,” said Clyde Seepersad, Senior Vice President, and general manager of training & certification at The Linux Foundation. “There is a significant shortage of cloud talent worldwide, in addition to challenges around upskilling existing professionals who are used to traditional development methodologies. This bootcamp will lower the barrier to entry for anyone interested in a cloud native development career, and will help more organizations source the talent they need to meet their digital transformation goals.”

“In a short amount of time Kubernetes has quickly gone from a niche infrastructure technology to completely ubiquitous. However, building the skills needed to seamlessly work with Kubernetes and cloud native technologies can be challenging for novice technologists,” said Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. “Programs like this new bootcamp are imperative for developers to get up to speed with today’s technology.”

The Cloud Native Developer Bootcamp is now accepting applications. The new bootcamp is being provided here for an initial price of $665 with promotion code CLOUD22 through March 22, 2022, a 30 percent savings over the normal price of $950.
